‘My Town My Pride’ culminates in Rajouri district on a positive note

Visiting Officer reviews progress on various CSSs, lays foundation stone for Rs 5 cr Darhal-Thanamandi Bus stand project, inspects govt institutions

RAJOURI: The grand Urban Public Outreach Programme today culminated successfully across all the Urban Local Bodies of Rajouri district on a positive note with overwhelming public participation and response.

Commissioner Secretary, Forest, Environment and Ecology department, Sarita Chouhan, who has been in Municipal Council Rajouri as Visiting officer in connection with ‘My Town My Pride programme, held a meeting with the ULB members and senior officers of the district administration.

President Municipal Council, Rajouri, Mohammad Arief, briefed about the overall functioning of the Council  and highlighted the major issues including identification of suitable land for establishment of a solid waste management project, establishment of a marriage hall to facilitate the urban population, development of a parking site, sanctioning of special funds for development of undeveloped wards of the Council, replacement of damaged water supply pipes, electric wires and telephone wires in various wards, sanctioning of four bore wells for Rajouri town at different locations to cater to the demand of water supply, provision of state land within MC limits for raising the assets of MC Rajouri, construction of front wall of GMS Dhanidhar and MS Kaphakha etc. 

The visiting officer assured that all their issues would be projected before the concerned authorities with proper follow up for an early redressal.

She took detailed stock of progress made under various centrally sponsored schemes being implemented in the district including SBM, PMAY-Urban, AMRUT, PM Swanidhi scheme etc.

Besides, the visiting officer also reviewed functioning of important sectors like health, social welfare, education and other important sectors.

While speaking during the meeting, the visiting officer said that My Town My Pride is a way towards building public trust adding that the purpose behind this programme is to strengthen the roots of good governance in J&K and empower the common people. She reiterated that “My Town My Pride” is providing a great opportunity to map the development needs of the people living in urban areas.

“The initiatives of taking governance at the doorsteps of the people are playing a central role in efficient deliverance of public services “, she added

The visiting officer directed the concerned officers and officials of different departments to put in place their best efforts to ensure the successful implementation of the centrally sponsored schemes on ground level and ensure that the benefits of these schemes is provided to the last beneficiary. She stressed upon the officers to speed up the pace of ongoing works and directed the concerned officers to personally monitor the progress of these works on a regular basis.

Meanwhile, the visiting officer laid foundation stone for Darhal-Thanamandi Bus stand and 1 km Dhanidhar road to Mohalla Haji Zahib approved at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore and 10 lakh respectively which would be executed by the Municipal Council Rajouri.  She also distributed blankets and handed over keys to two beneficiaries of PMAY -U.

The visiting officer handed over an amount of Rs 15 lakh to three beneficiaries as financial assistance for setting up of their business units under direct financing scheme of ST/SC Corporation. She also gave away a scooty to a physically challenged girl besides handing over sanction letters to three beneficiaries whose houses have been sanctioned under PMAY-urban. She also distributed skill development kits among the adolescent girls under ICDS and Golden cards among the beneficiaries.

The visiting officers also paid a visit to a number of government assets like Anganwadi centres, health institutions, community halls and other government institutions and took stock of the facilities being provided to the common masses there in these institutions.

District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Mohammad Nazir Sheikh, Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Sher Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police, Chandan Kohli, District Statistical and Evaluation Officer, Bilal Rashid Mir besides other senior officers of the district administration were present on the occasion.

Similar programmes were organised in other ULBs of the district where the visiting officers took part in different activities and conducted the final day proceedings of the programme.
