Rural populace in Kupwara still unaware about SGSY

KUPWARA: The union government is leaving no stone unturned for development of border residents as they have launched various centrally sponsored schemes to benefit rural populace, but authorities concerned here have failed to get any results so for.

According to sources that, there are scores of centrally sponsored schemes but rural populace of this district fails to take any benefit of Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) scheme which was developed for micro entrepreneur but authorities concerned have not shown any interest in taking it forward for the welfare of rural masses.

The scheme SGSY was introduced few years back in some parts of the state including this frontier district.

Source said there are dozens of well-educated people in some of rural areas of Kupwara district like Shumnag, Trehgam, Sogam, Hirri, Awoora, and Zachaldara villages who are unemployed and they are unaware about this centrally sponsored scheme.

“The SGSY was having potential to adjust people from rural areas under the category of ‘Below Poverty Line’ (BPL) so that they could show their caliber in our district, but one fails to understand that why authorities like Banks, Self Help Groups fails to make any awareness about this scheme,” source said.

They said that, many departments like bank employees are themselves unaware about this scheme, as I went last time to Bank Branch in Kupwara to know about the scheme, but hardly could they satisfy me about any of the assistance.

Locals here said that, some years back people had come to know about this scheme, since then various people have failed to get any concrete results from scheme.

Sources said that authorities concerned had made some differences like two district were selected in Jammu division and some funds for infrastructure were also utilized, but still people of Kupwara district are unaware about the scheme.
