Anantnag: spontaneous shutdown was observed in Anantnag town of south Kashmir following rumours that a local militant was surrounded by the security forces during a search operation in Kokernag area.

Reports said that the authorities imposed restrictions in Old Town after reports that a local LeT militant Tariq Khan was trapped in Dehruna village of Kokernag started doing rounds.

Witnesses said that a shutdown was observed in the town while youth took to streets and clashed with the forces.

An official said that the militants and the forces exchanged fire briefly soon after a search operation was launched in Dehruna village.
