SRINAGAR: Authorities on Friday imposed restrictions in parts of Downtown Srinagar to prevent protests against recent civilian killings in Kashmir.

An official said restrictions have been imposed in areas falling under the jurisdiction of five police stations in Downtown Srinagar.

Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising chairmen of both Hurriyat factions Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Muhammad Yasin Malik had called for peaceful protests across Kashmir post-Friday prayers against the civilian killings.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who has been placed under house arrest, said that Friday prayers were barred at the central mosque. He said the authorities have once again sealed Jamia Masjid to prevent Friday prayers.

In a tweet, he said that “suppression will strengthen our resolve and aspirations.”
