Protesters torch vehicle during clashes near Pulwama shootout site

PULWAMA: Protesters on Tuesday set ablaze a load carrier near the site of a shootout that left a militant dead in Litter area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Intense clashes erupted in Choudhrigam area of Litter following the killing of a militant in a brief shootout with the government forces.

Reports said that the militants opened fire on an army patrolling party today morning. The army retaliated, resulting in the death of a militant.

They said that the army launched a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in the area to nab the rest of the militants who launched the attack.

Soon after the CASO was launched, youth took to streets and pelted the forces with stones. The forces, according to witnesses, responded by firing tear gas.

“In a brief exchange of firing between the security forces and militants at Chowdhry Bagh area of Litter in district Pulwama earlier today one militant was killed. The identity and affiliation of the killed militant is being ascertained,” said a police spokesman.

He said incriminating materials including arms and ammunitions were recovered from the slain militant.
