Protest at IUST Awantipora to demand release of engineering student

AWANTIPORA: Protests were held at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora on Saturday against the arrest of a student and his father in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Reports said that scores of students held a protest march at the varsity to demand the immediate release of their mate, Tasaduk Rashid Bhat who was detained on Saturday along with his father.

The students raised anti-police slogans as they marched on the campus. “we will intensify our protests if Tasaduk is not released immediately,” they warned.

Meanwhile, reports said a police party came under fire when they raided his house in Awantipora last night.

Quoting sources in the police, a report said Tasaduq who is pursuing mechanical engineering at the IUST, was allegedly involved in recent protests at the varsity against the recent killings.
