Principal Secy Agri visits Kupwara, inspects SDH, interacts with delegations

Distributes financial assistance, sports kits among the beneficiaries

KUPWARA: Principal Secretary, Agriculture Department, Navin Kumar Choudhary, today said that the Government is committed towards development of urban areas with special focus on sanitation, clean drinking water and proper solid waste management.

Principal Secretary said this at a function organized at Government Degree College Kupwara as part of ‘My Town My Pride’ (MTMP) programme during his 2 day visit to Kupwara.

Principal Secretary also visited Sub District Hospital Kupwara and inspected its functioning besides assessing the working of Dialysis and CT Scan Centers. He also interacted with public delegations who apprised him of their issues and concerns seeking an early redressal. 

Principal Secretary was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Kupwara, Nazir Ahmad Lone; Chief Agriculture Officer, Muzaffar Ahmad Hurrah and Chairman Municipal Council Kupwara; Reyaz Ahmad Mir.

While addressing the function, Principal Secretary said that it was the long pending demand of the urban people to have missionary development programmes in towns on parallel lines with Back to Village programme implemented in rural areas. ‘The Government took serious note of the matter and launched ‘My Town My Pride’ programme for holistic development of urban areas on missionary mode’, he asserted. 

Principal Secretary also distributed cheques worth Rs.5 lakh among beneficiaries under different schemes of Labour department. 

          Under Street Vendor Assistance scheme, the Principal Secretary distributed Rs.1 lakh among 10 beneficiaries and Rs.6.15 lakh under Housing for All among 15 beneficiaries. He also distributed sports kits among 3 cricket teams including Mir Mohallah Cricket team, Darzipora team and Regipora team.

Principal Secretary appealed the people to strictly follow the COVID-19 preventive norms to save the precious lives while operating in their fields of work.

He said that welfare of people is their right and at the same time the citizens have a moral responsibility to fulfil certain duties to ensure smooth balance between development and social order. 

During the event, Chairman MCK, Reyaz Ahmad Mir, ward members of Municipal Committee Kupwara and prominent citizens also spoke and put forth their demands and grievances.

Principal Secretary heard them patiently and issued on spot directions to the concerned officers for resolving the issues on priority basis. He directed the Executive Engineer R&B to take macadamization of roads, links and pathworks on priority basis. He directed the Municipal officer to establish adequate toilet facilities in the town besides establishment of separate toilets for ladies.

Earlier, the Principal Secretary inspected stalls which were installed by various departments including Agriculture, Horticulture, Sheep & Animal Husbandry, Sericulture, Fisheries and Social Welfare departments. 

Among others Executive Officer Municipal Committee Kupwara (MCK), Ghulam Rasool Shah; Senior Officers, Ward members of MCK, Anganwadi Workers besides locals participated in the function.
