Srinagar: Scores of women on Friday staged a protest in Gaw-Kadal area of summer capital Srinagar against Power Development Department (PDD) for frequent power cuts in the holy month of Ramadan.

Reports reaching news agency Kashmir Dot Com said that groups of women assembled at Gaw Kadal area of Srinagar’s Maisuma and raised slogans against the PDD for snapping electricity to the area especially at Iftar and Sehri times.

The protesters said that their area has been plunged into the darkness due to frequent power cuts, which has exacerbated in the auspicious month of Ramadan.

“PDD seems to be indifferent to the problems we are facing owing to shortage of electricity and its implications have badly affected us as we are not able to prepare meals and offer Fajr and Taraweeh prayers due to absence of electricity,” said the protesters while raising slogans.

They pointed out the issues which the PDD, as per them, has been unable to address.

The protesters demanded an uninterrupted power supply to the area and warned of another protest if their demands remain unmet.
