People refuse Army’s ‘Iftaar party’ at Shopian village, soldiers open fire, 2 girls injured

Srinagar: Two girls sustained bullet injuries after Army soldiers fire to disperse people when locals of a Shopian village refused to participate in an ‘Iftaar party’ of Army and protested against it.

The incident took place at DK Pora, village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday evening.

“An army party came to DK Pora village toorganize an ‘Iftaar party’ but people not only refused to attend it but also threw whatever eatables Army had brought with them,” witnesses said.

Locals said, “We told them (Army) politely that we don’t need their party but they didn’t left the village.”

They added that later villagers staged protest against the Army which was retaliated with firing resulting in injuries to two local girls.

Hospital sources said that one 14 year old girl has been referred to Srinagar for advanced treatment. They identified the girl as Aqsa Jan.
