65 hectares of land being brought under Pea cultivation at Organic Village, Pampore

SRINAGAR: As an alternative to the traditional crops, the Director Agriculture Kashmir, Altaf Aijaz Andrabi today kick started sowing of peas over an area of 65 Hectare at Organic Vegetable Village Patalbagh Pampore.

Director on the occasion highlighted the need of adopting modern and smart agricultural practices with latest trends around the globe, to earn more remuneration for betterment of farming community.

He said that the focus of the department in addition to achieving self-sufficiency in Agricultural produce has been shifted to provide better marketing platforms to the farmers and growers to safeguard the farmers interests.

Andrabi said that the department is providing refrigerated vans on nominal charges to the aspiring growers to ensure the growers get maximum reach out to the market to increase their income.

He further added that the farmers of the valley should en-cash the seasonal advantage by producing the off season and exotic vegetables for which the department is available round the clock for providing all technical as well as logistic backup.

The Director also inspected the pace of work on the construction of bore well at the village. He directed the concerned to complete the work within the stipulated time frame so that the irrigation facility to the village is assured.

Plant Protection Officer Kashmir Lalit Kumar Raina, Chief Agriculture Officer Pulwama Mohammad Qasim Gani, District Agriculture Officer Extension and other senior officers of the district were also present.
