BARAMULLA: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday received another setback with its face in Uri Raja Ajaz Ali resigning from the party.

Ali fought the last assembly elections on PDP ticket but was defeated by NC candidate Mohammad Shafi Uri.

He stood next to Congress candidate Taj Mohi-ud-Din who was the nearest rival of Shafi in Uri assembly constituency.

Accusing party leadership of ignoring him, Ali said that his growth in the party was curtailed and he was not politically empowered.

“It was my personal effort in last assembly elections that I bagged 19000 votes in Uri, a place where PDP used to get not more than 1200 votes. However, despite my hard efforts I was side lined in the party,” he told Greater Kashmir.

Ali, who was former IGP Crime, is the fourth leader to have resigned from the PDP in past one week.

Former legislators, Haseeb Drabu, Abid Ansari and Abbas Wani quit from the party in the last week.
