SRINAGAR: Funeral prayers in absentia were offered on Tuesday at several places in Kashmir capital Srinagar for seven civilians and three militants slain in southern Pulwama district over the weekend.

Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) had on Monday urged people to offer ‘gaibana nimaze jinaza’ (funeral prayers in absentia) for the slain after Zuhr or noon prayers. JRL had also asked people to visit the homes of the slain and show solidarity with their families.

The prayers were held at Maisuma, Nowhatta and Hyderpora.

“As we mourn the #PulwamaMassacre all roads leading to the town continue to remain sealed and leadership continues to be caged, people offer Gaibana Namaz-e-jinaza for the Martyrs at #JamaMasjid and other places,” Mirwaiz wrote on Twitter.

On Saturday, seven civilians were killed after the government forces opened fire on protesters following a gunfight that left three militants and a soldier dead.

Soon after the civilian killings, the JRL — an amalgam of pro-freedom leadership — called for three-day shutdown and mourning to protest against the civilian killings.
