DC directs officers to step up IEC activities to spread awareness regarding prevention & timely treatment of TB

SHOPIAN: In order to review the progress of the district towards the elimination of TB and to chart out a roadmap for achieving TB-free status, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Shishir Gupta Wednesday chaired a meeting at Mini-Secretariat, Shopian.

At the outset, District Tuberculosis Officer (DTO) gave a detailed presentation on the current TB scenario, progress made under NTEP, status of patients, treatment success rates and challenges being faced in implementation.

 It was informed that the health department is ensuring free diagnostic and treatment facilities through the network of Designated Centres and TB Units.

DC called upon the health department to ensure early detection of suspected cases, prompt laboratory confirmation and uninterrupted drug supply.

He directed the officers to step up IEC activities to spread awareness regarding prevention and timely treatment of TB. To ensure early diagnosis, the meeting also discussed the procurement of machines to enhance testing capabilities at health institutions.

Gupta assured full support from the district administration, encouraging collective action and consistent monitoring to eliminate tuberculosis from every household and every village. He directed the health department to submit weekly progress reports.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Arshid Hussain Tak; MS DH Shopian, DTO, BMOs, Health Supervisors and ASHA coordinators.
