NIA books Mirwaiz Umar for waging war against country, terror funding case

Srinagar: In a significant development, National Investigation Agency on Saturday issued summon to Joint Resistance Leader and Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, asking him to present himself before NIA court on Monday at New Delhi.

The summon to chief cleric of Kashmir has been asked summoned barely after 11 days of NIA raided his house at Nigeen and seized electronic gadgets and many other things including papers.

Sources inside the Hurriyat (M) confirmed the development. According to the notice sent to Mirwaiz by the NIA, the Hurriyat (M) chief has been slapped with section 120 B, 121 and 121(A). Sources said that deliberations are on in the Hurriyat (M) camp whether Mirwaiz would himself go to Delhi or he would send his lawyer.

Mirwaiz is the first among the JRL to have been summoned by the investigating agency. JRL comprises of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz and JKLF Chairman Yasin Malik. Nonetheless, Malik was recently booked under PSA and shifted to Kotbalwal Jail. He was arrested on February 22 evening here and was kept at Police Station here for almost two weeks.

Besides, Hurriyat leaders, over 200 Jamaat-e-Islami leaders were also arrested by the authorities here following which the organization was banned by the Government of India.
