New High Court complex to come up at Rakh-I-Gund in Bemina

SRINAGAR: Secretary, Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs has written to Principal Secretary, Public Works Department to expedite construction of new High Court at Rakh-I-Gund in the Bemina area.

“The construction of new High Court at Rakh-I-Gund Bemina Srinagar was accorded administrative approval at an estimated cost of Rs. 908.20 crores (nine hundred eight crores and twenty lakhs only) vide Government Order No. 3456-JK (LD) of 2021 dated 04-05-2021with its execution through Public Works Department,” reads the correspondence shot by Achal Sethi, Secretary Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs to Principal Secretary, Public Works Department.

The correspondence further reads, “During current financial year 2021-22 an amount of Rs. 10.00 crores as earmarked for the said project and out of which 50% stands released in favour of J&K High Court. Competent authority has accorded approval for execution of the said project through Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation Ltd.”

It is accordingly requested that the execution of the project may kindly be entrusted/handed over to Jammu & Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation Ltd for execution of the work as per procedure/codal formalities laid down, reads the correspondence dated 18-10-2021 under correspondence number LAW-Plg/73/2021-12/DLJ&PA.

The decision of the Jammu & Kashmir government to execute new High Court at Rakh-I-Gund is likely to ease traffic congestion since the present High Court is located in the heart of Srinagar city near the Civil Secretariat. It would lead to a situation where the people living in districts of South and North Kashmir along with Central Kashmir can reach the High Court without any hassle whatsoever.
