Asks Cooperative deptt to revive, modernise Super Bazars

SRINAGAR: Principal Secretary Animal, Sheep Husbandry, Fisheries and Cooperative departments, Navin Kumar Choudhary today stressed that integrated development of schemes is the need of the hour. He asked the departments to upgrade the infrastructure and utilize it fully to extract maximum benefit out of it.

The meeting was attended by Mrs Purnima Mittal, Director Animal Husbandry Kashmir; Dr. Abdul Salam Mir, Director Sheep Husbandry Kashmir; Mr. Mohammad Amin, Director Fisheries J&K besides other officers of these departments.

Mrs. Vivek Sharma, Director Animal Husbandry Jammu, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Director Sheep Husbandry Jammu and many other officers and officials participated in the meeting through video conferencing.

On the occasion Principal Secretary directed the heads of departments to implement beneficiary oriented schemes in a specific timeline so that  maximum benefits are extended to livestock farmers. He asked them to encourage attracting investment from private players.

He stressed that integrated development of Animal and Sheep Husbandry departments besides Fisheries department should be conceived. He urged them to see for promotion, marketing and packaging of produce in fisheries department.

Choudhary directed all HODs to increase expenditure of unspent funds of centrally sponsored schemes to enable GoI to release the entire cache of funds. He maintained that maximum benefits of these schemes should reach to the grassroots level.

The meeting discussed the revised budget estimates for each department for the current fiscal. It was given out that the revised budget estimates for Animal Husbandry, Kashmir is Rs. 3736.12 lacs, Animal Husbandry, Jammu Rs 2986.44 lakhs, Sheep Husbandry, Kashmir Rs 1188.00 lakhs, Sheep Husbandry, Jammu Rs1569.10 lakhs and Fisheries department Rs 791.32 lakhs.

In another meeting the Principal Secretary reviewed the working and budget outlay of Cooperative department. The meeting was attended by Registrar Cooperative Societies, J&K, Asif Hamid Khan and other officers of the department through video conferencing.

Navin Kumar Choudhary asked the concerned officers to revive the Super Bazars of cooperative department on commercial lines.He further asked them to adopt all the modern technology of doing business online and give attractive discounts to customers.

Principal Secretary advised the concerned to refurbish the business of Super Bazars on modern lines adopting all the innovations and technologies currently utilized by other private players. He maintained that all the Super Bazaars are located at commercially viable places and have a great potential of doing business.

The meeting was informed that the revised budget estimates for 2020-21 is Rs 5684.33 lakhs and the projected estimates for next fiscal is Rs 7926.24 lakhs.

The department has 9 Cooperative banks, 2 apex cooperatives, 11 housing cooperatives, 80 poultry and 25 diary cooperatives among a total of 804 cooperatives functional and registered with the department.

The department also envisages construction of new super bazaars, refurbishing of the existing ones, modernization of bazaars, construction of Agri marts and providing of assistances to societies.
