Mirwaiz expresses shock over New Zealand mosque attack

SRINAGAR: Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday expressed shock over the twin mosques terrorist attacks in Christchurch, New Zealand.

“Shocked and Deeply grieved by the barbaric attack at twin mosques in #Christchurch New Zealand. Multiple fatalities feared. Once again Humanity becomes a casualty. Condemnation beyond words. prayers for the victims (sic),” Mirwaiz said on Twitter.

The shootings occurred on Friday morning in which reportedly 40 people have been killed.

Muslims across New Zealand have been advised by the authorities to avoid attending mosques today.

New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has described the incident as “one of New Zealand’s darkest days.”

Meanwhile, the Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison has said at least one of the Christchurch attackers is an Australian-born citizen.

A video of the attack had also gone viral on the social media networking websites, especially on Facebook. However, a spokeswoman for Facebook New Zealand, Mia Garlick, said videos which appeared to show the Christchurch shootings have been taken down.
