Democracy replaced by autocracy in the country: Karra

SRINAGAR: Scores of Congress workers led by senior leadership on Wednesday held a daylong “Maun Satyagraha (silent protest)” here in solidarity with Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Parliament.

Senior Congress leader Tariq Hamid Karra, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said the “silent protest” is in solidarity with Rahul Gandhi after he was disqualified from the Parliament and the subsequent dismissal of his appeal in a Gujarat court.

“The protest, both in Jammu and Kashmir divisions, is in solidarity with Rahul Gandhi Ji,” he said while talking to the media persons at the party headquarters in Srinagar.

“There are disturbances and chaos in the country. The democracy in the country has vanished; it has been replaced by autocracy,” he said

The Congress workers, including a large number of women, had covered their mouths with black clothes to register their protest.

Meanwhile, the Congress on its Twitter handle wrote that J&K PCC President, Working President, and senior leaders participated in ‘Maun Satyagraha’ near Mahatma Gandhi statue at Satwari Chowk in Jammu.

“Rahul Ji’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha has completely exposed the autocratic Modi Sarkar. No power can stop him from raising people’s voices!” the tweet mentioned.

“He (Rahul) has raised issues of corruption and is fighting to restore democracy in the country,” he said.

The ‘Maun Satyagraha’ comes after the Gujarat High Court dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s plea seeking a stay on his conviction in the Modi surname defamation case.
