Locals attack police party in Budgam village, hold constable hostage: Police

SRINAGAR: A police party deputed to arrest an accused was attacked by the locals at a village in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday.

In a statement, a police spokesman said that a police party from police station Beerwah was deputed to execute a non-bailable warrant issued by the court U/S 512 CrPC against one accused person Tariq Malik son of Ali Mohammad Malik resident of Waragam, Budgam.

“When the police party arrived in the village, a mob comprising of males and females attacked the police party,” he said. 

“One constable was also held hostage by the mob and was later retrieved from the village with the efforts of police.”

He said the police has registered a case under relevant sections of law and initiated investigation.
