LeT Dist. Commander Among 2 Militants, Army Personnel Killed in Shopian Encounter

Srinagar: Two militants including a Lashkar-e-Toiba (TRF) district commander and Army personnel were killed in an encounter in south Kashmir Dragad area of Shopian on Wednesday.  

The encounter started in the late morning in Shopian after a cordon and search operation was carried out by a team of security forces. In the ensuing gunfight, two militants were killed by forces. 

As per IGP, one of the slain militants was identified as Adil Ahmad Wani, a district commander of Shopian. He said that Wani was active since July 2021 and was involved in the killing of a non-local carpenter in Litter, Pulwama recently.    

However, another militant killed in the encounter was not identified by officials, but has been unofficially identified as Shakir Ahmad Wani, a resident of Litter, Pulwama. 

As per IGP Kashmir, security forces have killed 15 militants in Kashmir during two weeks in Kashmir in different encounters.  

In the encounter, Army also suffered damage as three of its personnel had been injured in the gunfight and one of the soldiers died of his injuries, inflicted upon the deceased one during the Shopian encounter. 

It is pertinent to mention that the encounter comes after the one in Dragbal area of Pampore in which two militants were killed by security forces.
