Kupwara Roads in Shambles, R&B, Beacon in Slumber

KUPWARA: As winter has passed in Kashmir, but roads of this frontier district have potholes due to which the old aged people and students in particular and public in general are up in arms against Beacon and other concerned department for their callous approaches.

People of area are blaming the department of Roads and Building (R&B) as according to them department is receiving huge amount every year, but the condition of roads speaks their work culture as roads have been never magdamized from past many years.

The rural areas in this frontier district including Awoora, Anderhama, Batpora, Sogam Lolab, while as Zachaldara, Babgund, Ashpora and other areas in Handwara where villagers said that, department has deplorably failed to main the poor conditions of these roads.

“Both national highway and inner link roads are in shambles, numerous times in past we were assured that roads will be repaired, but till date no repair work was carried on these roads, said Mohammad Shafi of Ashpora.

He said that “one fails to understand that why government is not fulfilling their promises as in past huge amount was sanctioned to repair and construct roads in the district but announcement has remained confined to papers only, as we were also promised by our so called political leaders that the roads in this district will be repaired on priority basis,”.

He said that, the air pollution has created problems for their children, the dust has created many diseases on school going children and for all this mess the department concerned is responsible.

“Due to potholes, damaged roads Children reach late to their schools as condition of roads give tough time to bus drivers to ply their vehicles on the highway, while as same condition is of inner links, said Zeenat Ara a 12 standard student from Handwara.

Local residents of these villages allege that the department of R&B is not able to use funds properly due to many reasons and one of the reasons is they are not willing to utilize funds at ground level, whereas Beacon authorities were supposed to maintain these roads but they have also failed.

The locals of these areas urged Governor Administration for intervention in to the matter and seeks early redressal of their grievances.
