Srinagar: Kashmir University’s Department of Environmental Science and Centre of Research for Development (CORD) on Tuesday organised a daylong seminar on Tuesday to mark the World Environment Day-2018.

The spokesman said the Patialiatheme of the seminar was: ‘Beat the plastic pollution—if you cannot reuse it, refuse it.’

Professor RC Gupta from the Punjabi UniPatiala delivered the lead lecture, while students and research scholars made oral and poster presentations on the theme.

The three best presentations were awarded a cash prize of Rs 2500, Rs 2000 and Rs 1500 respectively.

The Department of Students Welfare (DSW), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) also organised a function to celebrate the “World Environment Day” under the theme “Beat the Plastic Pollution” at Nowgam Campus-I.

Scholars and experts threw light on a wide range of topics related to the theme. They highlighted the menace of plastic pollution and suggested ways to curb it.

Launch of The Up-cycling Project on World Environment Day by Dolphin International School, Pulwama.

Meanwhile, Dolphin International School, Pulwama, also kickstarted “The Up-Cycling Club” on World Environment Day, today. The project has been pioneered by the students of DIS to reimagine waste-disposal in Pulwama and to set a system for mobilising various stakeholders towards collective action.

The first phase of the project included the making of a 200-litre Compost unit for school, sensitising students about segregation and setting up a maker’s lab to use dry trash for innovative problem-solving. Students from all grade levels starting Pre-nursery to Grade 10 are actively involved in managing waste at school.
