SRINAGAR: The University of Kashmir (KU) has achieved a remarkable national distinction by emerging as the Champion in the 17th National Youth Parliament Competition, organised by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Parliament of India, New Delhi.
The prestigious competition witnessed participation from 59 universities across the country at the group level. After rigorous rounds, eight premier universities from different zones qualified for the national stage. In the final round of the Group Level National Youth Parliament Competition, the KU outperformed all participating teams and emerged as the overall champion, bringing laurels to the institution and the region.
Congratulating the students, Vice-Chancellor KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan said, “This outstanding achievement reflects the intellectual strength, awareness and democratic spirit of our students. Their performance shows that the youth of Kashmir are capable of engaging meaningfully with national institutions and parliamentary traditions. The University is proud of this historic accomplishment.”
Registrar KU, Prof. Naseer Iqbal described the victory as a moment of pride for the institution and the region. He said, “Winning this prestigious national competition among leading universities of the country is a testament to the talent, discipline and commitment of our students.”
As part of the recognition, 55 students from the varsity will now be invited by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs to attend the prize distribution ceremony to be held within the Parliament of India in New Delhi. During the ceremony, the KU team will also present a re-performance of their Youth Parliament session in the presence of senior officials and dignitaries of the country.
Dean Students Welfare KU, Prof. Pervez Ahmed also lauded the dedication of the students and the mentor.
The mentor of the team, Dr. Shahid Ali Khan, Cultural Officer DSW KU and coordinator of the University Youth Parliament initiative, expressed deep pride in the students’ achievement.
The achievement marks a significant milestone in the University’s youth engagement and leadership initiatives, further strengthening its presence in national academic and parliamentary platforms. It also reflects the growing confidence, awareness, and leadership potential among the youth of the University.
