SRINAGAR: The University of Kashmir (KU) launched Vigilance Awareness Week at the Main Campus underscoring the Varsity’s commitment to promoting ethical conduct and institutional integrity across all levels of administration and academics.
Observed under the theme “Vigilance – Our Shared Responsibility,” the programme is being organised in collaboration with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), J&K.
The initiative aims to strengthen transparency, accountability, and collective responsibility among university employees and students.
Vice-Chancellor KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, in her address, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to ethical governance.
“Integrity must guide every decision we make as individuals and as an institution. Vigilance should prevent wrongdoing and nurture trust, transparency, and accountability in our daily work. Each of us shares the responsibility to uphold these values for the progress of our university and society,” she said.
Registrar KU, Prof. Naseer Iqbal, said that the University’s active participation in Vigilance Awareness Week reflects its commitment to promoting good governance and ethical practices.
“Vigilance begins with self-discipline and awareness. Upholding integrity in every action strengthens our collective commitment to good governance and institutional trust,” he said.
SSP, ACB, Javaid Hassan Bhat, stressed on the significance of public vigilance in curbing corruption.
“Public participation and awareness are vital in building a corruption-free society. When every citizen becomes vigilant, transparency and accountability naturally follow,” he said.
Dean, School of Law, KU, Prof. Shahnaz, emphasized the importance of promoting awareness about ethical governance and accountability among students.
During the event, officers from ACB delivered a detailed presentation on vigilance awareness and discussed a case study on disproportionate assets.
Dr. Mubashir Altaf, faculty at the Department of Law, KU, provided a critical overview of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, while law student, Saqib Bashir shared his thoughts on the role of society in promoting transparency.
Participants engaged actively by sharing their feedback and taking part in an interactive quiz on the Kahoot app, designed to test their understanding of vigilance practices and ethics.
The event concluded with a pledge-taking ceremony, during which teaching and non-teaching staff reaffirmed their commitment to uphold integrity, promote transparency, and contribute to building a corruption-free institutional environment.
