DC motivates youth to participate in sports

RAJOURI: Kotranka Zone lifted the Dr. Raj Kumar Thapa Memorial District Level Cricket Tournament title by defeating Sunderbani Zone in the final match held today. The tournament was organised by Principal of Boys Model Higher Secondary School Rajouri.

Deputy Commissioner, Abhishek Sharma was the Chief Guest at the concluding event of the tournament. A total of 16 teams from across education zones of District Rajouri participated in the tournament, making the event an encouraging platform for young talent and promoting sports culture among students.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner paid rich tributes to Dr. Raj Kumar Thapa and remembered his invaluable services and supreme sacrifice for the nation. He informed that work has already begun to convert the residential quarter of late Dr. Thapa, who was serving as ADDC Rajouri, into a museum and library, as a mark of remembrance of his contribution.

He motivated the youth to actively participate in sports, remain vigilant against drug menace and strive to excel at national platforms. He emphasised that sports not only enhance physical fitness but also inculcate discipline, confidence, leadership and teamwork among students.

The Principal of the host school expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner for his support, especially for providing funds for ground leveling and beautification, which facilitated smooth conduct of the tournament.

Chief Education Officer, Mohammad Hafeez, staff members and prominent citizens from civil society attended the programme and witnessed the final match. The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony, wherein the winners and runners-up teams were awarded amid applause and appreciation.
