IUST Hosts program on Environmental Biomonitoring in South and South-East Asia

AWANTIPORA: The Mantaqi Centre for Science & Society (MCSS) at the Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST) organised a special session on An Integrated Approach to Research in Environmental Biomonitoring with Special Reference to South and South-East Asia by Prof Zeba Farooqi, and Head, Environmental Biomonitoring Research Unit (EBRU), De La Salle University, Manila, Philippines.

Dr. Farooqi discussed issues of e-waste and metal pollution in the Philippines and drew parallels with contamination concerns in the Kashmir Valley. She highlighted the urgent need for integrated monitoring to address pollution, biodiversity loss, and public health risks.The event was inaugurated by Prof. Mir Javid, Professor of Practice, who underscored the significance of biomonitoring in tackling regional environmental challenges. The program was attended by heads of departments, faculty, scholars, and students.
