GMC Principal thanks PM, cautions public

JAMMU: Principal GMC Jammu, Dr. Shashi Sudan Sharma in a press conference on Doctors day thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for appreciating the work and sacrifices of Doctors and health care workers in fighting the COVID-19 Pandemic. She said that on this day everyone remembers and salutes the sacrifices of more than 800 Doctors who lost their lives during the 2nd wave of COVID-19.

She also appreciated the work of all Faculty Members, Paramedical staff and administration in contributing to fight the 2nd wave. She conveyed that in spite of very virulent strain during the 2nd wave, GMC, Jammu did a commendable job. “Despite huge rush of patients, we were able to provide oxygen supported beds, free medicines and food to every patient,” she said and informed that the oxygen supported beds were increased from 200 to 967 during the 2nd wave.

She thanked the medical professionals for their untiring efforts on National Doctors Day. Regarding preparations for the 3rd wave, she said that Infrastructure augmentation and procurement of machinery /equipments as per guidelines is going on a fast track basis and more than 800 health care workers have been recruited and the induction training of new appointees including DRDO staff, refresher courses for old staff as well as training of health care workers deputed from peripheral Hospitals is going on simultaneously in GMC, Jammu. She assured everyone that if the third wave of Corona comes, then we are fully ready to deal with it.

She also requested each and every one to get themselves vaccinated and follow COVID appropriately behaviour including wearing mask, hand hygiene, social distancing and avoiding social gatherings to stay safe from this deadly virus. She said that it is only when everyone owns individual responsibility then we can win this war against COVID-19 pandemic. She was accompanied by HOD’s, administrators and Matrons during the press conference.
