GDC Baramulla organizes guest lecture

BARAMULLA: As part of an ongoing ‘Teacher Enrichment Program’ (TEP) sponsored under a flagship programme of UGC/CPE, Government Degree College (GDC), Baramulla today organized a lecture on ‘Functioning of Vaccines in Human Body and Importance of Vitamin D’.

The Guest speakers on the occasion included Prof. (Dr.) Syed Hussain Mir and Dr. Mehraj-U-Din Bhat, Department of Clinical Biochemistry, University of Kashmir, Srinagar.

Principal, GDC Baramulla, Prof. Mohammad Maqbool Rather, emphasized on the significance and relevance of conducting lectures in times when the traditional mode of knowledge sharing is standstill in view of COVID-19 pandemic.

The Guest Speaker, Prof. (Dr.) Syed Hussain Mir, traced out history of vaccination from its inception until the discovering and current status of COVID-19 vaccine.

The key highlights of the lecture were human immunity, structure, mechanism, routes of administration, safety, side effects, and allied issues related with vaccination. The speaker also dealt deeply with the burning issues of COVID-19 vaccine and the difficulties faced by the virologists due to its uncanny and complex nature.

Another Guest Speaker, Dr. Mehraj-U-Din Bhat in his presentation described the necessity of Vitamin D   and its benefits for human beings in detail.

He also pinpointed the potential consequences of vitamin D deficiency and use of supplements in order to overcome the same.  He recommended a good number of eatables enriched with vitamin D for regular use.

The session culminated with a threadbare discussion and a fruitful question and answer session.
