Final of blind cricket tournament held at DPS Srinagar

Srinagar: Kashmir Green defeated Kashmir Yellow by 35 runs in the final of the first ever blind cricket tournament in Kashmir at DPS Srinagar.

The spokesman in a statement said that chasing 148 for victory courtesy a superb 83 by M Ashraf, Kashmir Yellow was bundled out for 113.

“The tournament was organised by J&K Handicapped Association in association with DPS Srinagar and Empowering Disabled People’s Trust J&K. The final was a grand event with the Principal Alistair R A Freese, and Chairman Vijay Dhar in attendance. Besides a galaxy of prominent people were present. They included Dr Sajad Ahmad Kanganu, Abdul Rashid Bhat – State president JKHA, M Javed Ahmad Tak – Chairperson Humanity Welfare Org, Ab Hameed- Social activist and CEO Raheem greens and SHO Pantha Chowk Mohammad Ayoub Rather,” he said.

Speaking at the presentation, the Principal Alistair R A Freese complimented the players on the historic win. He said “I am delighted the school contributed to creating this historic opportunity. I am proud of everyone especially the school that contributed to making the event a success.”

Chairman DPS, Vijay Dhar too congratulated the players and pledged “At DPS Srinagar, we are bound to strive towards a society that provides an opportunity to everyone. This tournament was a part of our efforts towards this goal.”

J&K Handicapped Association President, Ab Rashid Bhat said that the people with disabilities get very opportunities here to show their talent and sports is an area where they can excel and be recognised. He said that after the successful completion of this event, they are planning another event for para cricket.

Event organiser and JKHA Srinagar President, Abrar Ahmad said, “By changing people’s perceptions of themselves and their abilities: Sport empowers these young people to recognize their own potential and advocate for changes in society to enable them to fully realize that potential.”
