SRINAGAR: After an inordinate delay, Jammu and Kashmir Economic Reconstruction Agency (JKERA) has finally submitted a project report for construction of four grade separators (mini flyovers) on Bypass along Srinagar Jammu highway to Asian Development Bank (ADB) for funding.

As per its detailed project report (DPR), ERA has sought funds from ADB for the construction of mini flyovers on Bypass at four intersections—Sanat Nagar, Nowgam, Bemina and Shalteng to ease traffic and minimize accidents along highway.

Director, ERA Kashmir, Showkat Ahmad Wani said that proposal seeking funds for small flyovers has been submitted to ADB.

“As per ADB guidelines, projects sought for funding should be encroachment-free. The sites which we have allocated for construction of small flyovers are all encroachment free which makes it more likely that ADB will sanction funding for its construction,” said Wani, adding that team from ADB will visit Kashmir next month for assessing the project.

“The road corridor witness the huge number of vehicles coming from northern and southern parts of the valley. It also witnesses the frequent movement of security personnel vehicles. To pass these vehicles, civilian traffic movement is stopped for half an hour or so. The number of conflicting usages and the high vehicular and pedestrian volumes act as a barrier to redevelopment and growth of the area,” the proposal states.

“The proposed project is part of the long-term plan of the state government to improve urban transport facility in the city. Considering the existing traffic demand and future growth of traffic there is a need for a 4 grade separated facility on this road,” it adds.
