BARAMULLA: District Magistrate (DM) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, today chaired the 21st meeting of the Narco Coordination Committee (NCORD) at the Meeting Hall of the DC Office Baramulla to review the district’s ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse and strengthen enforcement under the NDPS Act.
During the meeting, the DM directed all law enforcement agencies to ensure strict implementation of NDPS laws and to intensify awareness programmes on the harmful effects of drug abuse, particularly among youth and students. He also emphasized taking strict action against persons found smoking in public places, especially around educational institutions.
The DM further instructed for 100% installation of CCTV cameras in all educational institutions and identified hotspots to enhance monitoring and surveillance.
He also directed the Police, Revenue, and Excise Departments to carry out joint drives for the destruction of bhang (cannabis) cultivation, ensuring close coordination for effective results.
While reviewing overall progress under NCORD, the DM stressed the importance of community participation, urging Public representatives, religious leaders, and educational institutions to actively support the administration’s anti-drug initiatives.
The meeting was attended by ADC Sopore, ADC Baramulla, SDM Uri, SDM Pattan, ASP Baramulla and representatives from Excise, Education, Health, Social Welfare, and other concerned departments, who shared updates on ongoing anti-narcotic measures in the district.
