Huge quantity of rotten vegetables destroyed, Rs 11k fine imposed on erring traders

SHOPIAN: In compliance with the directions of District Magistrate (DM) Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, the Special Enforcement Teams of the District Administration Shopian today launched intensive market checking across the main market Shopian and adjoining areas.

The Special Enforcement Squads headed by Additional District Magistrate, Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmed Simnani conducted intensified market checking in different areas of the district  to ensure all essential commodities are sold at already fixed prices besides, ensuring their quality and availability in  markets.

The Tehsildar, Shopian, in coordination with police, legal Metrology, FCS&CA and other departments carried out inspections in main market of Shopian, Gol Market and other markets to curb the black marketing and profiteering in  markets in wake of ensuing winter season and booked several erring shopkeepers.

These shopkeepers were found failing to maintain the quality of food items, not displaying rate lists of essential commodities, selling expiry products, besides indulging in practice of illegal profiteering and sale of underweight products.

During the market checking, a fine of Rs.11000 was imposed on the erring vendors, besides huge quantities of expired food items and rotten vegetables were destroyed on the spot besides seizing of bikes and vehicles which were found wrongly parked.

The Enforcement Teams also asked the traders and vendors to strictly adhere to the Covid-19 sops and ensure all customers are wearing masks while making purchases.

ADC also warned the vendors not to encroach the footpaths failing which shall render action against the violators.

Speaking on the occasion, ADC said that such a drive has been conducted in order to ensure the quality and price control besides keeping vigil on erring traders. He said that such drives will continue in future also.
