Detained IUST students released from detention following daylong student protests

AWANTIPORA: The students of Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora on Monday evening ended their protests after the arrested students were released by the police.

The students staged daylong protests and demanded the release of Tasaduq Rashid Bhat who was detained by the police last week.

Bhat is a student of mechanical engineering at the varsity and had been reportedly arrested for his involvement in protests at the varsity. Bhat along with his father Abdul Rashid was under detention.

Following the arrests, the students intensified their protests and decided to stay put at the campus till the arrested students are not released.

Confirming the release of the students, Vice Chancellor IUST Prof. Mushtaq Siddique said Tasaduq and other three students were released by the police on request of the varsity administration following which students left for homes from the campus.
