NEW DELHI: A court in Dwarka on Wednesday directed the Delhi police to submit a status report on the investigation so far into the death of a 25-year-old biker who died after falling into an uncovered Delhi Jal Board pit in West Delhi’s Janakpuri.

The court has also sought a report on the operational status of CCTV cameras installed near the spot where the incident occurred.

Earlier, on Tuesday, the court had granted protection from arrest to contractor Kavish Gupta. He had approached the court for anticipatory bail after receiving a notice from the police to join the investigation in connection with the biker’s death.

Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Harleen Singh granted protection to Gupta, subject to his joining the investigation. Gupta assured the court that he would join the investigation on Wednesday.

“Accordingly, let the applicant join the investigation on the aforesaid date and time, as undertaken by his counsel. Meanwhile, let no coercive steps be taken against the applicant till the next date of hearing,” ASJ Singh said in the order passed on Tuesday.
