DDC Kupwara holds Block Diwas in frontier village Keran

KUPWARA: The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kupwara, Khalid Jahangir today stressed upon the officers and field functionaries to play a proactive role in resolving public grievances, adding that the development of border areas is top most priority of LG Administration.

The DDC said this while addressing the Block Diwas function held at Keran, situated at Zero Line (LoC).

The DDC said that the District Administration is committed for equitable development of all hilly and border areas of Kupwara district including Keran, Karnah, Jumangand, Kumkadi and Machill.

During the block diwas programme, the DDC carried out various activities.

The DDC laid the foundation stone of Water Supply Scheme (WSS) Keran under the Jal Jeevan Mission in presence of concerned BDC Chairperson, Ex. Engineer PHE and PRIs. It was informed that total cost of the scheme is Rs.4.45 crore and the scheme will provide water in better quality and quantity to the whole population of Keran area.

Khalid Jahangir said that on the directions of Lt. Governor J&K UT, various initiatives have been taken to ensure overall development of habitations in Keran. He said Rs 35 lakh stands sanctioned for the electrification of uncovered habitations of Keran. Likewise, Rs 55 lakh shall be incurred for completion of Public Health Centre building; Rs.10 lakh for promotion of Grafted Walnut and Stone fruits. Besides, one Sozini Centre has been set up to promote handicraft skills among young girls and women.

Moreover, the DDC also provided a special grant for 100% AI coverage to upgrade the livestock breed for better yields in the area.

While inspecting the stalled Keran Bridge, the DDC directed for resuming of work on the bridge and directed the concerned engineers for its completion within 2 months.

During the Block Diwas function, the PRIs and the public projected their developmental issues before the DDC. The DDC heard them patiently and gave on spot directions to the officers present besides he also resolved several issues on the spot.

BDC Chairperson Keran, ACD Kupwara, ACP, CMO, CEO, CAHO, Executive Engineer PDD, DSHO, Tehsildar, BDO, BMO, block officers, besides, PRIs and people in large numbers participated in the block diwas.

Addressing the block diwas function, the DDC urged the officers to play a proactive role in resolving various issues of the public. He passed strict directions to all officers to work in a mission mode for ensuring completion of all ongoing projects before the culmination of the working season.

The CEO was directed to enhance monitoring of activities of the schools in the area. OC BEACON was directed for macadamization of the balance portion of Keran road on a war footing basis, before the onset of winters.

The DDC also directed Ex. Engineer R&B to extend road connectivity to all habitations within a year. While as BMO was directed to take lead in coverage of uncovered persons with Golden Cards. Ex. Engineer PDD was directed to ensure timely completion of the sanctioned project for electrification of uncovered habitations.

The DDC asked all PRIs to ensure full coverage of centrally sponsored schemes in their respective villages.

Khalid Jahangir said that Keran has a vast potential for border tourism and urged people to coordinate with the Tourism Department and make registration for homestays.

Earlier, on his way to Keran, the DDC inspected High School Kundyan, interacted with students and enquired about the education and mid day meal facilities provided by the school administration.

On the instructions of DDC Kupwara one more Block Diwas function was held at Seemari in Karnah sub division situated near LoC to resolve the problems of the people living in far flung and border areas. Officers from local administration including Tehsildar, BDO and concerned BDC Chairperson, PRIs attended the block diwas programme.

The Block Diwas programme was also held at Magam Handwara which was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Handwara, Nazir Ahmad Mir. DDC Member Natnussa, Advocate Zahoor Ahmad Magray, BDC chairperson Magam, Tehsildar Handwara, BDO, block officers, besides, PRIs, Sarpanches, Panchs and a large number of people attended the Block Diwas programme.
