DC Udhampur hands over papers of IWMP project assets to Panchayats

 UDHAMPUR: Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur  Indu Kanwal Chib, in presence of Project Manager, Integrated Water Management Programme (IWMP), Udhampur Sapna Kotwal and field staff today handed over records of IWMP-II project  Dudu Tawi-B and Batch-III to Sarpanches of Pattangarh watershed, Veena Gupta and Matloa watershed, Onkar Nath here in her office Chamber.

The DC appreciated the works of IWMP and hoped that   the assets created under IWMP will be maintained well by the representatives of the concerned Panchayats.

The Project Manager IWMP apprised that this is the first time in the history of UT J&K that the assets created under IWMP of closed projects are handed over to the Sarpanches /Chairman of the respective watershed committees. 

She informed that the IWMP-II Dudu Tawi-B Project is one of two projects of Batch-III. In this project four watersheds namely Sira-Latti, Marothi, Pattangarh and Matloa were sanctioned and taken up for execution and 1835.48 hect area was treated. She said an amount of Rs.2.75 crore has been expended in this project. 

Out of four watersheds, record of two watersheds i.e. Pattan Garh watershed, with 38 completed works and Matloa watershed with 16 completed  at a cost of Rs.58.238 lakh and Rs.24.769 Lakh, respectively were handed over to concerned Panchayats. These works have benefited 359 persons, comprising SC=92, ST=58 and 209 others. These works helped them to reduce soil erosion, increase water table and raise their livelihood by increasing Agricultural production.
