DC Kulgam reviews Traffic Decongestion Measures in district

KULGAM: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Shahzad Alam, along with SSP Kulgam Anayat Ali Choudhary, today chaired a meeting of officers to review measures for easing traffic congestion in Kulgam town.

During the meeting, the DC took a comprehensive review of traffic management strategies, including identification of congestion-prone stretches and bottlenecks, regulation of roadside parking, removal of encroachments, streamlining of public transport stops/stands, diversion plans, and regulation of loading and unloading timings for commercial vehicles.

The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for coordinated efforts among the concerned departments to ensure smooth traffic movement, particularly in busy market areas and major junctions of the town. 

He directed the officers to take immediate steps to remove encroachments from footpaths so that pedestrians can move safely and conveniently.

The DC further instructed the concerned departments to intensify enforcement drives against illegal parking and unauthorized occupation of public spaces that contribute to traffic bottlenecks. 

He also emphasized the proper utilization of designated parking areas and asked officers to ensure strict adherence to traffic regulations.

During the meeting, a review of route permits and rationalization of traffic flow in Kulgam town was also carried out to improve the overall traffic management system.

The meeting was attended by the Assistant Regional Transport Officer, DySP Traffic, Tehsildar Kulgam and other concerned officers.
