‘Vaccination mandatory for Govt employees, noncompliance to invite action’

KATHUA: Deputy Commissioner, Kathua Rahul Yadav today said  that Covid positive case tally in Kathua district is on constant decline with bed occupancy in Covid hospitals coming down to under 10 patients.

The DC Rahul Yadav was speaking at the weekly press briefing on the prevailing Covid situation in the district and the measures taken by the district administration to contain the spread.

He said with 116 active cases, district Kathua is continuously maintaining the lowest tally of positive cases among all districts of UT of Jammu & Kashmir in the last few days.

Terming vaccination as a potent tool to fight Covid-19, the Deputy Commissioner said that health teams have been mobilised to cover last mile habitations to achieve 100% inoculation of all eligible categories. He said 78% of the 45 year and above people have received the vaccine shots, while the drive to inoculate people in the 18 -44 age category is slowly gaining momentum in the district.

Rahul Yadav said the district administration has issued instructions to all the employees to get vaccinated by the end of June month, otherwise their salary will be kept withheld. The key preventive step was aimed at to ensure safety of the government employees who are among the vulnerable group to catch the covid infection.

Appealing to people not to get carried away by easing of restrictions, the DC said utmost Covid discipline is what is required from all stakeholders of the society to minimise the chance of its resurgence. He further appealed to the people not to venture out unnecessarily and avoid social gathering besides following basic safety measures viz wearing masks and maintaining hand hygiene.
