BARAMULLA: In a step towards empowerment and inclusivity of specially-abled persons, a special event was organized today at Dak Bungalow Baramulla where 27 retrofitted motorized tricycles were distributed among the eligible beneficiaries.

The event was presided-over by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, who handed over the keys of motorized tricycles among 27 eligible beneficiaries, marking a moment of empowerment for many families.

The event was attended by the District Social Welfare Officer, District Information Officer, other officers and officials, besides the specially-abled recipients and their families.

While extending his heartfelt congratulations to the beneficiaries, DC said that the distribution of motorized tricycles is not just about providing mobility aids but is a step towards ensuring dignity, independence, and equal opportunities for specially-abled persons.

Meanwhile, DC underscored that over the past two years, district administration Baramulla has distributed more than 600 retrofitted motorized tricycles and other assistive devices among specially-abled persons across the district.

Minga Sherpa reiterated that the government is committed to fostering inclusivity by creating enabling opportunities and removing barriers that hinder full participation of specially-abled individuals in society.

Earlier, the participants also joined virtually in the UT-level Mega Event at SKICC Srinagar, which highlighted the government’s initiatives for specially-abled persons, including the distribution of retrofitted motorized tricycles and other assistive aids across Jammu and Kashmir.
