SRINAGAR: Authorities have set aside repair of Government Primary School building which was damaged in the year 2017 due to which students and staff members are the worst sufferers.

According to sources, the tall claims of government castles in air, as the students are compelled to take education under the open sky.

Sources said the Education Department is least bother about the students as concerned department has failed to repair the school building in Ramban district of Jammu division since 2017.

Mohammad Ishtiyaq, social activist and sarpanch of the area said that, in 2017, the gushing winds had damaged the government school, but since then the building was not repaired which is matter of worry for parents as well as their wards who are pursuing education in damaged building.

“The Government Primary School Tralley, of Tehsil Rajgrah of Education Zone Batote in Ramban district was damaged in 2017 and since then we have made many representations before the authorities but all went into vain,” said Ishtiyaq.

Local residents of Rajgrah said that “one fails to understand that who had selected this place for construction of school, as they believe the topography of the area is in a zig-zag shape and the authorities should have constructed the building at plain area, it is expected that the building will get damaged if it is constructed on the hill top,”.

Sources said that there is an enrollment of 40 students in the School for which two teachers were appointed under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme.

The local’s blame the damage that has occurred is because of the substandard material was used in the construction of building.

Earlier teachers and locals of the area had made many representations before concerned authorities including ZEO, CEO and other higher officials, but still the building was not repaired.

Recently ZEO has asked the teachers to shift school to some private building for which the department will pay rent till the building will be repaired, but due to unknown reasons the school is still functioning in the damaged building.

“The issue of this school building was also taken up during ‘Back to Villages’ programme and now let us see how much time it will take in its repairing,” sources added.

“Irony is that the students are taking education in the Kitchen Shed that is used for cooking of mid-day meals, and authorities have time and again said there is no funds despite the fact that authorities are well aware about the problem, and should pay attention for security of students,” sources added.
