CUK’s SLS holds interactive prog on internship and placements

Ganderbal: Department of Law, School of Legal Studies (SLS), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) organized an interactive training programme regarding “internship and placements in the field of Corporate Law”, for the outgoing students of B.A.LLB 9th semester here Monday.

Noted corporate lawyer and founder, Lawyers at Work (LAW), Ms. Talha Salaria, who was the guest speaker, shared her experiences as to how she joined the profession and encouraged the outgoing students about different employment opportunities throughout the country. She laid emphasis on three important aspects of career development in the subject of Law i.e, self-confidence, financial independence, and importance of curriculum vitae and linked-in profiles. She emphasized the importance of contract drafting, soft/negotiation skills, overview of laws familiar with corporate sectorial practices.

Addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah, expressed satisfaction over holding of such events and deliberated on huge scope of joining big corporate firms of India, for exploring new career opportunities.

Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, in his address hailed the department of Law for conducting such activities for academic growth and development of students. He stressed that internship is an imperative part of gaining experience so that the students get placements throughout the country.

In his address, Dean SLS, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, said, “Before passing of the Advocates Act of 1961, it was only the elite class of India that used to opt for the law course until the year 1988 when the late Madava Menon conceived the idea of law schools and the introduction of 5-year BALLB programmes.” He shared the experiences of Mahatma Gandhi and, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam as to how they transformed their dreams into reality by hard work and commitment during their student life.

Mr. Hilal Ahmad Najar, Asst Prof, conducted the programme proceedings while Mr. Bilal Ahmad Ganie, Coordinator, presented vote of thanks.
