CUKashmir Deptt of English holds lecture on ‘NEP 2020: Multidisciplinary Edu and Holistic Dev’

GANDERBAL: Department of English, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir), organised an extension lecture on “NEP 2020: Multidisciplinary Education and Holistic Development” under the patronage of Vice Chancellor, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath.

Prof. Hitesh D. Raviya, Professor and Head, Department of English, and Vice Dean, Faculty of Arts, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara, Gujarat delivered the extension lecture. Prof. (Dr.) Sandhya Tiwari, Head, Department of English and Dean, School of Languages, CUK chaired the session.

In his lecture, Prof. Raviya elaborated on the vision and objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, highlighting its emphasis on flexibility, multidisciplinary learning, and holistic student development. Drawing inspiration from ancient Indian universities and the concept of the 64 kalaas (arts), he stressed the importance of integrating traditional knowledge systems with modern education. Prof. Raviya also emphasized the promotion of regional languages, noting NEP 2020’s commitment to fostering local literatures, including Kashmiri, through translation and curricular inclusion. Addressing common misconceptions, he clarified that the policy does not advocate the imposition of Hindi or any single language.

The event commenced with a welcome address and felicitation of the guest by Prof. (Dr.) Sandhya Tiwari. Proceedings were conducted by Eiman G., a doctoral scholar of the department, who also proposed the vote of thanks.

The lecture witnessed participation from faculty, undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students. Attendees appreciated the session as a timely and insightful discourse on the transformative potential of NEP 2020 in shaping the future of higher education in India.
