CUK VC Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir chairs PMB, UBC meetings, takes impt decisions

Ganderbal: Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir Tuesday chaired the 8th meeting of the Planning and Monitoring Board (PMB) and 29th meeting of the University Building Committee (UBC) at Green Campus here.

Addressing the meetings, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said the university is strictly adhering to the both academic and examination calendar, despite the challenges thrown up by the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic. “The online teaching learning is being conducted without any fail and the End Semester Examinations (ESE) were held on time,” Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said, adding the results of the examinations were also declared within the stipulated time frame. Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said the varsity has been moving way ahead on academics and research front when compared with the sister Central Universities, established with it. “The university has made its mark in providing quality education and has become the top choice of the students for receiving education,” he said, adding the students from other parts of the country have also joined the varsity and are pursuing education in different departments. Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said the university for the first time conducted Central University of Kashmir Admission Test (CUKAT-2021) for admission to the Post Graduate, Under Graduate, Research, Diploma and other programmes offered by it. He said the varsity’s libraries spread across all the five campuses have a rich collection of more than 50,000 books, and an online collection of 2116 of leading publishers. Prof. Mir further said the university has started e-office from March this year which has furthered its smooth functioning and has cut the delays. CUK Vice Chancellor said the university officials, employees and students follow strict Covid protocol and the health centre has till date conducted 1200 Rapid Antigen Tests. He further added that the varsity’s health centre has also organised vaccination drives to vaccinate the employees and students of the university.

While informing the participants about the progress and development on the building of infrastructure at the designated Tulmulla Campus, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has constituted a high powered technical committee, led by soil expert, Prof. K S Rao, which would be submitting its report about the soil analysis very soon. He further said, the university has till date added 80, 000 Sq Ft space and has renovated 50, 000 Sq Ft. CUK Vice Chancellor, sought full support and cooperation from the experts and officials working in the State administration for completing the mega project.

Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, who took up the agenda items in both the meetings, also gave a detailed account about the functioning of the university, particularly, post Covid-19 outbreak. He said the university conducted several webinars, seminars, conference, guest and extension lectures, majority of them in online mode and recently organised the book release function in association with National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC)” which was presided over by Lieutenant Governor, Jammu and Kashmir, Shri. Manoj Sinha. He further said the university in association with NAAC also conducted a two-day Assessors Orientation Programme (AOP) at varsity’s Tulmulla Campus here and signed an MoU with Vigyan Prasar for disseminating of scientific knowledge in Kashmir and Urdu. Prof. Afzal Zargar also gave details about the additional 96 kanals of land at Watlar Ganderbal and the university’s plan to construct a university township comprising hostels for students, and accommodation for university staff. He further said the Design and Innovation Centre (DIC) is also setting up herbal garden and the proposal is being given a final shape. 

Both the meetings were attended by Deans of Schools, external experts, senior functionaries in the district administration and officials of the university.
