SRINAGAR: Hundreds of students of Central University of Kashmir (CUK) on Saturday staged a protest march to demand the release of their peers detained by the government forces.

An eyewitness said that the students boycotted their classes and staged a protest on the campuses before taking out a protest march towards Nowgam bypass.

“Hundreds of students holding banners and raising slogans are taking part in the protest march towards the bypass. They are demanding the release of two students of the varsity detained by the forces,” he said.

The students staged a demonstration at Nowgam bypass where they blocked the traffic movement as well to press for the release of their mates.

The protesting students said that two political science students, identified as Suhail from Shopian and Ismail from Baramulla were detained by the government forces from their rented accommodation near the varsity.

Head of the political science department, Dr Khalid said that both are regular students of the varsity. “They come to their classes daily,” he said.
