NEW DELHI: India’s Covid vaccination drive kicked off on Sunday with a little more than half of the targeted beneficiaries covered on day 1 amid delays in uploading the list of registered people at some places and non-scheduled vaccinations happening at some others.

Not free of glitches, the vaccination drive that targeted to cover three lakh health workers on the inaugural day had reached a little more than half the target beneficiaries by 6 pm.

Out of 3 lakh target beneficiaries registered for today, 1,65,714 were administered shots as per provisional data available until 5.30 pm.

The government spokesperson Manohar Agnani said the drive was successful with vaccinations happening at 3,351 sites across India and 16,755 personnel engaged in vaccine delivery.

No case of post-vaccine hospitalisation was reported from anywhere amid concerns over the safety of indigenous shot COVAXIN.

Eleven states — Assam, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and UP — administered both COVAXIN and Covishield.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Dadra Nagar Haveli, Daman Diu, Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, JK, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, MP, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Puducherry, Punjab, Sikkim, Uttarakhand and Bengal received only Covishield for administration.
