Srinagar: A counter militancy operation has been going on in Nar Khas forest area of Mendhar, Poonch district since yesterday, said an Army officer on Friday.
The officer said that during the operation, there was heavy exchange of fire and in the ensuing gun fight two Riflemen had been critically injured and later succumbed to their injuries.
Duo riflemen have been identified as Vikram Singh Negi, 26, a resident of Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand and Yogambar Singh, 27, a resident of Chamoli, Uttarakhand.
The Army officer said that Negi and Singh displayed exemplary courage, devotion and made the supreme sacrifice in line of duty.
It was further said that the operation is still in progress in the area.
