Cop shot dead at Yaripora, Kulgam

KULGAM: Suspected militants shot dead a police man at Frisal, Yaripora in Kulgam district of South Kashmir, officials said Saturday.

The officials told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Head Constable was performing duties at a Naka point at Frisal area of Yaripora in Kulgam district when militants first lobbed a grenade and then opened firing indiscriminately. “The injured HC was immediately rushed to hospital, but he died on way,” a police official said.

He said that soon after the incident, a massive manhunt was launched in the area to nab the attackers. “A vast area is being searched to nab the attackers,” he said.

The slain Head Constable has been identified as Muhammad Amin Bagat, a police spokesman said in a statement, adding that he was performing duties at a joint Naka of police and CRPF at Frisal and received grevious bullet wounds.

“He was shifted to hospital, but succumbed to his injured,” the police spokesman said. “Investigations have been started and search launched in the area.”
