Civilian killed in clashes near Handwara gunfight site

HANDWARA: A civilian was killed on Friday during clashes near the site of a gunfight in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, which has left a CRPF inspector and a cop dead and five forces’ personnel injured.

An eye witness said that Waseem Ahmad Mir, son of Muhammad Akbar Mir of Sagipora Sopore was injured during clashes near the gunfight site in Babagund village of Langate.

He was shifted to district hospital Handwara where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Dr Rouf, Medical Superintendent District hospital Handwara confirmed the death of Mir. “He was declared dead on arrival at the facility,” said Dr Rouf.

Earlier, a CRPF Inspector and a policeman were killed and five other forces’ personnel wounded after a militant presumed dead during a gunfight opened fire in Handwara.
