LEH: A Bharatiya Janata Party sitting councilor from Saspol constituency on Thursday resigned from the party and joined the apex body of Ladakh, demanding constitutional right under 6th schedule.

Addressing a joint press conference, Tsering Wangdus, a sitting councilor from Saspol constituency said that he has resigned from the BJP and joined the apex body to represent the sentiments of Ladakhi people and demand 6th schedule for the region.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), he said he along with all the Sarpanchs and Panchs has joined the apex body.

“As a senior leader I feel that it’s really appropriate for me to work along with the senior most leaders who are part of the apex body,” he said.

He said that he was also not called to the party meeting today but he had already conveyed to the party to look for the replacement.

Meanwhile in his resignation letter addressed to Ladakh MP, Jamyang Namgyal, Wangdus said this is being submitted with deep anguish/apathy that the needless interference of external forces in Leh unit of BJP is crossing heights.

“The irresponsible statement by Ashok Koul, general secretary (Org) J&K UT and Prabhari UT Ladakh severely hurt the sentiments of the entire Ladakh and minimized the faith of the people of Ladakh in the party’s attitude towards the region,” he said.

Wangdus in his letter has said that Ashok Koul has no right to insult the Ladakhis by terming the decision of poll boycott as “senseless.”

“To continue the party even for a moment on any position has become anti-Ladakh and its unanimous voice. Hence I resign from the party’s primary membership with immediate effect,” the letter stated.
