‘Lights have been installed, cordon layers tightened to ensure militant don’t flee’

PULWAMA: An unidentified militant has been killed in an encounter that broke out between militants and security forces in Noorpora village of Awantipora belt in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday while operation is underway.

An official told News agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that one unidentified militant has been killed in an exchange of fire while the operation is on in the area.

They said that there is information that the militants who are trapped belong to Ansar Gazwat ul Hind. The official said that a joint team of Police, army’s 42 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on a specific information about the presence of militants in Noorpora village of Awantipora area.

He said that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them which was retaliated triggering an encounter. Sources in the security grid said that the operation is on but firing has stopped. “Lights have been installed and cordon layers tightened in the area to ensure remaining militants don’t flee,” they said.

They said that security forces will ensure that the remaining militants are killed before the first light of the day tomorrow. This year so far, 190 militants have been killed including top commanders of Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Muhammad in various encounters.
